England are set to begin a white-ball tour of Sri Lanka – a country close to the heart of Bat For a Chance founder Will Gaffney.

And well it might be, given the charity’s past, present and future welcome helping to use cricket as a tool for social change across the island nation.

“It’s my favourite place,” says Gaffney.

“I love Sri Lanka and we love working there.”

BFAC works with the long-standing partner Foundation of Goodness, which runs projects aimed at empowering Sri Lankans in the wake of the 2005 tsunami. Patrons include Kumar Sangakkara and Russel Arnold.

As part of this partnership. BFAC funds a cricket bat repair shop that offers carpentry skills for the employees to take back to their communities. Along with the repaired bats.

In all, 580 bats have been repaired since the project launched in 2023, with people across 77 villages across Sri Lanka benefitting from the new skills learned in the workshop.

Now, BFAC is planning a kit drop to Sri Lanka later this year to coincide with the Asian nation’s men’s team touring in England in September.

“The bat repair shop is an awesome little scheme that repairs cricket bats with sustainable locally-sourced wood and services the whole island, overseen by two local bat masters,” adds Gaffney.

“We can’t wait to continue our work in this amazing cricketing nation throughout 2026 and beyond.”
